Firechief R.D. Beacon began his career in fire services in 1962 as 1st Assistant Chief of the Elk Volunteer Fire Department and held that position until 1966 where as he then became chief of the Elk Volunteer Department until 1971. In 1971 the EVFD would not serve outside the confines of the town and so a new department was formed to cover the rural areas outside the town of Elk, called Greenwood Ridge Fire Department of which R.D. Beacon is the current Fire Chief of. Our volunteer fire department serves surrounding ranch properties in Mendocino County area of Elk California.  |
